June 30, 2025

We are proud to announce that Harvard University Housing & Real Estate has been recognized as a Green Lease Leader,
reshaping how buildings perform. The Green Lease Leaders program leverages high-performing leases to drive energy
efficiency, improving landlord-tenant collaboration, and supporting high-performance buildings. This recognition reflects
our commitment to energy-aligned practices and ongoing sustainability leadership.

Harvard University Housing & Real Estate has been awarded the 2025 Platinum-level award, which is the highest rank of
recognition.

High performance leasing rolled out to the entire Housing portfolio this past leasing season, incorporating measures at
inspections and turnovers, formalizing engagement strategies, and aligning tenant and landlord participation and
commitments toward decarbonization, sustainability efforts, and regulatory requirements.

**Please join us in congratulating the following teams & partners who made this exciting recognition happen through their**
**efforts and partnership:**

thank you for your commitment to ensuring HUHRE is a leader in the future for sustainable living!

## What is a Green Lease?

Green leasing (also known as energy-aligned, high-performance, or energy-efficient leasing) aligns the financial and
environmental goals of landlords and tenants to work together to save money, conserve resources, and ensure the efficient
operation of buildings. (Source)

### Platinum-Level Recognition

Platinum-level recognition integrates ambitious building energy reduction goals
with social impact goals while maintaining the core principles of the program. To
achieve Platinum-level qualification, our leasing practices, policies, and language
in our Housing leases were revisited to meet 5 additional core areas that
integrate both environmental and social priorities:
